Serengeti National Park

After an early breakfast, we depart for the world-famous Serengeti National Park, driving up the crater highlands with a stop at Ngorongoro Crater's rim for breathtaking views. The name "Serengeti" comes from the Maasai word for "endless plains" - a perfect description of this 6,900 sq mile wilderness.

The Serengeti is home to the Great Migration (2 million wildebeest, hundreds of thousands of zebras and antelope) and Africa's best predator viewing. Lions, cheetahs, leopards, and hyenas abound, with many famous wildlife documentary scenes filmed here. The vast plains will stretch beyond the horizon, challenging your perception of distance.

The Ngorongoro Crater spans 102 sq miles with 2,000 ft high walls, forming a natural enclosure for nearly every East African wildlife species. It's one of Africa's few places to see the endangered black rhino. The crater contains diverse habitats - rivers, swamps, a flamingo-filled soda lake, forests and open plains - and is famous for its giant-tusked elephants.
